Lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) are components of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. The LPS of Bordetella pertussis, unlike the LPS of Escherichia coli, lacks O-antigens. It has been reported to show diverse biological activities, including LAL activity, mitogenic activity, fever, macrophage activation, and TNF induction.
