Buyer Planner

Job Function:

We are hiring a Buyer Planner. The Buyer Planner owns the processes around executing raw material and finished goods inventory requisition including, but not limited to purchasing, managing change by exception, modeling/projecting inventory levels, and order fulfillment. The Buyer Planner will support FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific’s growth by driving improved inventory turns, hitting target service levels, and controlling the creation of excess inventory. The person in this role will also ensure raw materials availability to production at all times. To be successful, this individual will be required to move easily between systematic modeling, tactical analysis, and detailed execution of work plans. This individual will need to possess a strong combination of leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the Supply Planning Review Process (SPR) within Operations & Quality
  • Partner with Demand Planner on demand & supply scenario modeling
  • Develop supply planning metrics and process KPI
  • Model, establish, and track safety stock levels to hit service level targets
  • Accountable for all RM & FG planning and requisition placement in ERP system
  • Oversee the analysis and projections of Excess & Obsolescence (E&O) & Scrap Reporting and work with manager to develop action plan for improvement opportunities
  • Partner with Quality in Material Review Board (MRB) committee
  • Oversee the planning value review process and analysis with various departments and ensure accurate values are populated in ERP system planning data tab
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team (i.e. Marketing, QA, Regulatory, etc.) in sorting out customer raw material demands and drive order fulfillment from material suppliers
  • Secure and analyze quotations; Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers
  • Recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities
  • Maintain and communicate material availability and supplier commitment information
  • Work closely with Procurement Manager to manage assigned Strategic Suppliers, and establish leadership role on certain initiatives/ projects
  • Assist identification and qualification of new sources of supply to support the business strategies
  • Review, approve, and coordinate change to specifications as required
  • Demonstrate project management skills, including project chartering, timeline development and management of deliverables
  • Issue purchase orders using ERP system and ensure suppliers confirm receipt of PO
  • Assess and process change notifications from suppliers
  • Maintain supplier item details on raw material specifications
  • Collaborate with Facilities, Engineering, and EMS groups to understand their sourcing needs and issuing purchase orders while meeting the appropriate need-by-date
  • Review open Purchase Order List and follow up on updated delivery time with suppliers to ensure assurance of supply
  • Resolve any supplier invoice discrepancies with suppliers and Finance
  • Contribute to Total Cost of Ownership savings target as set forth by the Supply Chain management
  • Contribute to standard cost setting for internal financial analysis annually
  • Manage supplier relationships in building stronger understanding of processes, forecast, and supplier capabilities
  • Other duties assigned by management as needed

Experience/Education:

  • BS/BA degree with concentration in Supply Chain, Operations, Mathematics, Economics, Purchasing, or related science or finance industry required; Master’s degree preferred
  • APICS or ISM Certification is preferred
  • Buyer and/or Supply Planning experience in SAP, Jeeves ERP or other related inventory planning tools preferred
  • Competent and knowledgeable in utilizing best practices in inventory management; APICS, or other Supply Chain organization experience is preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Expert level Microsoft Excel and database reporting skills is a plus
  • Ability to identify and evaluate key supply issues for the company and develop alternative solutions
  • Minimum 2-3 years of buying and/or planning experience in similar or equivalent role is preferred
  • Life sciences experience or regulated industry experience is beneficial
