Associate Sales Director-Discovery Research

Job Description:

We are hiring an Associate Sales Director, Discovery Research - Global. The Associate Sales Director will hire, lead, and manage globally deployed Account Managers (AM) and Field Application Scientists (FAS) in achieving both short-term and long-term company goals for the Discovery Research Product Line.


  • Building a sales and FAS staff to sell the FCDI product line to global drug discovery market.
  • Developing and continuously adjusting a detailed plan that provides the sales team with the strategy and tactics to lead them to success.
  • Creating, monitoring and ensuring execution of annual Sales Incentive plan goals [i.e. managing direct reports to achieve assigned targets].
  • Acting to remove internal roadblocks to sales performance
  • Use CRM and conduct consistent reviews of opportunity funnel to drive new business
  • Monthly reporting/reconciliation of performance data
  • Develop business, customer relationships, new ideas and projects to strengthen strategic partnerships with global key accounts.
  • Directing field contact with customers to develop, maintain, and expand existing business in the territory.
  • Giving feedback to inside personnel on changes in the marketplace and competitive information.
  • Developing promotional ideas and activities in a given territory to assure profitable growth.
  • Generating ideas for new products based on customer input and suggestions.
  • Completing all reports and any additional paperwork required in a timely fashion.
  • Working within travel and expense guidelines.
  • Attending tradeshows and participating in marketing efforts.
  • Travel expected at 50% global.


  • Bachelor's degree (B. S. in a Life Science) from four-year college or university
  • Have 8-10 years related experience in Sales, Marketing, Business Development, or related commercial/business function in the life science industry, preferably associated with the drug discovery market.
  • Senior-level leadership and management skills appropriate to lead a team [12-14 individuals] expected to achieve company and market goals.
  • Intermediate to high level of sales and marketing techniques in a technical environment.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Requires basic ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to successfully negotiate contracts
  • Self-starter with ability to prioritize business critical activities
  • Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude
  • Excellent communication skills and presentation ability
  • Knowledge of general business administration practices
  • Basic computer skills, including Word and Excel
