α-Carotene Standard

Alpha-carotene is one of the carotenoids contained in carrot root, palm oil, etc. Alpha-carotene and beta-carotene are measured separately in foods containing abundant alpha-carotene such as tomato-processed foods and their total is designated as total carotene. It is used as a reference standard for HPLC in the measurement of nutritive value in foods.
