Sr. Manager, Shipping Logistics

Job Function:
We are hiring a Senior Manager, Shipping Logistics. The Sr. Manager, Shipping Logistics will develop and maintain an efficient, organized, error-free, and responsive shipping department. In this role, your work will encompass a broad range of activities required to ensure customers receive the highest quality service through shipping accuracy, completeness, timeliness of shipments, and acceptable condition upon receipt. The Senior Manager receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules, deadlines, and goals. In addition, the person in this role provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies, and also analyzes performance of existing systems and processes, evaluating and recommending improvements to methods and/or cost reductions.


Job Duties:

  • Work on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends
  • Demonstrate critical decision making skills and good judgment in all areas of control
  • Manage subordinates to meet schedules and resolve technical problems
  • Develop and administer schedules, performance requirements, and budget responsibilities
  • Manage all functions of finished goods logistics, maintaining compliance with required regulations
  • Evaluate freight or inventory costs associated with transit times to ensure that costs are appropriate
  • Schedule and monitor pickup, delivery, and distribution of products and materials
  • Ensure that documented Customer Requirements for picking, packing, and shipping are met
  • Assess order and shipping status, and provides communication to other departments as required
  • Ensure tracking and tracing of shipments to their destinations, expediting orders when necessary
  • Ensure that excellent support is provided to internal departments and customers, including complaint investigation and resolution
  • Monitor departmental performance, and implements procedures within his/her responsibility for excellent service, better efficiency, cost reduction, and improved company reputation
  • Report routinely against objectives and established KPIs
  • Responsible for departmental compliance with SOPs, DTIs, and Training Materials
  • Recommend changes and improvements to policies and procedures, as well as developing and maintaining Training Materials
  • Analyze and interpret current business practices to execute viable recommendations and resolutions for improvement; such recommendations and plans need to be communicated clearly to organization for execution support
  • Manage the completion, organization, and maintenance of all transactions, paperwork, reports, records, and documentation to meet compliance standards and business requirements
  • Monitor the cycle count process that is managed by the Shipping Supervisor so accuracy levels are above 95% on a consistent basis and identifies root cause for any discrepancies
  • Support accurate stock levels of finished goods to meet production schedules, forecasts and customer delivery requirements
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting, and training warehouse staff and supervisory personnel
  • Mentor and develop departmental personnel; prepare staff for increased responsibility



  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, distribution, supply chain, operations, logistics or related field; High School Diploma or equivalent and relevant experience may be substituted for a degree
  • 8-10+ years of related experience, including experience managing direct and indirect reports
  • Experience in life science, biopharma, or related industry is preferred
  • Experience supporting operations in a multi-site, multinational manufacturing environment is desired
  • Direct experience and strong knowledge of operational procedures regarding distribution logistics, such as air and ocean shipping, cross docking, freight forwarders, LSPs/3PLs, etc.
  • Knowledge of supply chain, including common obstacles and effective solutions / alternatives
  • Strong knowledge of import/export procedures, regulations, and documentation
  • Knowledge of cold chain packaging and logistics
  • Experience with pharma and/or medical device shipping and export highly desired
  • Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements, with emphasis on finished goods inventory control and transportation
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong leadership, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service experience
  • Experience with Email, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using ERP, CRM, and similar enterprise business systems
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
